In this hybrid panel talk, we will discuss the community-building roles of festivals, film criticism, and cinephilia more broadly, through the practices and celebratory potential for the medium we all work in, whether we curate it, write about it, or embody it. Seeing our industry environment today as one paradigm, replacing another (print vs digital vs social media) may provide a neat overview, but is it all that simple?
At a time when digital communities and platforms already shape our discourse and the way we do film criticism and make festivals, what are the necessary adjustments we need to make to assure a relationship between online and offline that is not only mutually beneficial, but enriching.
This discussion will take place on-site at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival on February 7th, 2024, at 16:00 CET. A recording will be available from 1.03.2024.
