The European Network for Film Discourse (The END) and short film magazine Talking Shorts are organising the 4th edition of the European Workshop for Film Criticism: two week-long workshop sessions for aspiring film critics set during the short film festivals in Dresden (April 2024) and Vienna (May/June 2024).
Both workshop units will explore short film criticism and its possibilities. In Dresden, participants will practise the fundamental elements of writing a film review, reworking the same text to push it further, and discover the work involved in film curation, whereas in Vienna, the focus will be placed on the skills required to carry out, and write, interviews of professionals in the field of short film.
In both workshops, the emphasis will be on the craft involved in the writing of an engaging piece of criticism. The writing process will be supervised editorially during the festivals, and a selection of the texts will be published on Talking Shorts. The tutor of this tandem workshop will be Anas Sareen.
