What’s the Point of Solidarity
Panel Talk
We often use the word solidarity, but do we really understand what it means today? From its politically charged use in the former GDR to its revival during the COVID-19 pandemic, solidarity has taken on many shapes. This panel explores how the concept has evolved and how it can be practiced meaningfully and justly in today’s diverse and complex film landscape. What role does solidarity play in filmmaking and film communities? Can it be more than a buzzword—a tool for real support, inclusion, and collective action?
This panel talk was organised by Filmfest Dresden in collaboration with Talking Shorts and moderated by Mateja Meded (filmmaker, actor & scriptwriter) with the participation of Benita Bailey (co-founder of Schwarze Filmschaffende e.V. – Black Filmmakers Association), Vic So Hee (screenwriter, dramatic advisor & activist), and Rachel Pronger (co-founder of Invisible Women Feminist Film Collective).
Hosted and produced by Filmfest Dresden, in collaboration with Talking Shorts and Weiterdenken – Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Sachsen e.V.
