Leiden Shorts
30.05—03.06.2025
Leiden Shorts was established in 2009 as a new-born platform for short films and has since grown into one of the most important short film events in the Netherlands. We envision Leiden Shorts as an alternative creative space for national and international filmmakers to showcase their distinct voices by exploring the power of the short film medium. By considering cinema as a tool for social change, we aim to spotlight underrepresented voices and provide space for daring narratives and unconventional forms to take shape.
Every year, Leiden Shorts receives over 1200 submissions from over 70 countries. In four days, the festival presents more than 100 short films in various genres from all over the world. Our programme includes three core competitions for national, international, and student films, as well as thematic and focus programmes, industry and networking events, Q&As, panels and workshops. Leiden Shorts is a full-fledged, yet an ever dynamic film festival that stimulates talent, broadens perspectives, encourages discussions, and creates new encounters.
